Summer Math

We have decided not to assign work from IXL for several reasons.  One being that IXL conducted at least two upgrades last summer which changed the content of several of the modules.  The other being that many students did not complete or attempt the work.

Mrs. Finkelstein, our Middle School math teacher, has created Google Classrooms for the students entering grades 6, 7 and 8 in September.  Instructions for joining the Google Classrooms are attached.  Once they have joined, students will be able to respond to questions, and Mrs. Finkelstein will be able to give them feedback.  The children are expected to complete the assignments on Google Classroom before they return to school in September.  summer math 2017 grade 6.pdfsummer math 2017 grade 7.pdfsummer math 2017 grade 8.pdf

For families of children in the younger grades, you might want to consider checking out these free websites for activities.
Granny Prix is a fun activity that helps students work on fluency.
Diaper Derby is a fun activity that helps students work on fluency.
Dare to Compare, a part of the Kids’ Zone website, contains questions from the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), the Civic Education Study (CivEd) and National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP).
Khan Academy is a non-profit that provides instructional videos and practice in many subjects.  In math, they begin in Kindergarten and go up to advanced subjects like linear algebra.

If you would like to spend some time with your children working on math skills over the summer, one of the most valuable things you can do is help them memorize the multiplication tables.  There really is no substitute to learning them except memorization and practice.  Your children may not thank you now, but they will later on.
