September Newsletter

Welcome to Pre-K!  We are so excited to begin another new school year!

Our first two weeks of school together will be spent getting to know each other and our classroom.  We will learn about our classroom routine and discuss fair rules that we will all follow while at school.  During this time, we will learn how to work and play together in centers and while completing small group work.

Our first ELA and literacy unit, All About Me, will start the 3rd week of school and will last about four weeks.  During this unit, we will be learning about what makes us special, the different parts of our body, our five senses, and our basic needs.

Some of the ELA standards that we will cover are:

-Students will interact with a variety of common types of texts (storybooks, poems, songs).

-With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about details in a text.

-Recognize and name some upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet, especially those in own name.

-Print some upper and lowercase letters (letters in their name).

The first math module that we will complete, will also start the 3rd week of school and last until the beginning of November.  We will cover five modules throughout the year.

The standards we will cover during module 1 are:

-Know number names and the count sequence.

-Count to tell the number of objects.

-Compare numbers.

-Understand simple patterns.

-Sort objects and count the number of objects in each category.

In science, we will be learning about the different weather conditions we see on a daily basis.  We will also discuss the characteristics  of autumn.

For religion, we will be learning how God makes each of special.  We will also continue learning our prayers, the Sign of the Cross, Our Father, and Bless Us O Lord (prayer before meals).

During social studies, we will be learning about the different things that make us special and unique.  We will talk about how we are the same and different.
