October
In Math, the fourth graders tackled multi-digit addition and subtraction with a major emphasis on word problem comprehension. We St. Brigid OLH pumpkin patch word problems using what we learned!
In Social Studies, the students learned about the Algonquian and the Iroquois tribes that lived in New York hundreds of years ago. Ask any of them what the Three Sisters are!
In ELA, the students focused on a a few topics. We strengthened our sentence structure by reinforcing the different types of sentences while also learning about subject and predicate. The students worked on sequencing events... check out our pumpkin muffins made from scratch and a student essay explaining all the steps in a 3 paragraph essay! .pdf
In Religion, the students learned about the laws God created for us to follow in order to join Him in heaven one day.
In social-emotionally learning, the students reviewed boundaries and how important it is not to burst anyone's personal bubbles.
The 4th grade also kicked off their school year with a field trip to Queens County Farm Museum!! Check out the pictures to see what we explored!
nOVEMBER
The students learned what GCF and LCM mean and put their knowledge to the test with "Around the Room Word Problems" and "Word Problem Merry-Go-Round." They also learned how to play a new game to help memorize factors called Factor Captor! Check out the students Factor and Multiple Turkeys!
The 4th grade became scientists in November! They learned about velocity, speed, gravity, friction, and potential/kinetic energy!
The students just finished learning about nouns! Person, place, and thing just isn't enough... we worked with common, proper, singular, plural, and possessive nouns!
The students are learning more about St. Thomas of Aquinas and have just started their St. Thomas of Aquinas picture books to read to the younger grades!
In social-emotionally learning, the students focused on the word "Kindness," they practiced kindness and completed the challenge to do 15 acts of kindness.
December
The students completed Family Traditions Essays.
In math, the students learned how to multiply up to three digit numbers!
The fourth grade dove into Social Studies and became New York historians!
During Religion class, the students learned about the cardinal and theological virtues.
January
The fourth grade cozied up with a lot of multiplication! They did such a stellar job they were able to move into long division.
A highlight of fourth grade was researching an inventor and their invention to be showcased during the CSW academic and multicultural expo!
The SEL word of the month was MINDFULNESS... students learned more about using their social filter and to think about what they say or do before its done.
February
Fourth grade entered the operating room! They worked on solving word problems! The key idea was to use the key words to identify the proper operation.
The fourth grade got back into their lab coats to learn more about types of energy, transfers or energy, and the different forms of energy.
They also worked on researching famous sports figures to recognize their impact on Black History.
February was the month of FRACTIONS for fourth grade! We learned and used math vocabulary, represented fractions with visuals, compared fractions, and added and subtracted fractions with like denominators.
Fourth grade became more comfortable with adjectives when they participated in the "What's in the Bag" activity to guess the object based on descriptive words.
