Art K-5 - Mrs. Fennessy

I believe the purpose of Art Education is to enhance a child’s education and provide an outlet for creativity.  Art class should be a place and time students look forward to during their busy school week.  Creativity is something that is inherent in everyone, regardless if they can draw or paint well.  Every individual brings to the table their own experiences, ideas, and beliefs, which serve as a basis for their creativity.
 
Too often in the latter years of grade school, students begin to become critical of their work and begin to compare their art work to their classmate’s and decide that they are not artistic.  I feel strongly that all children gifted or not must be encouraged with positive reinforcement on a regular basis to try and prevent this from happening.  For these reasons, I think it is very important to offer students a diverse curriculum that encompasses a variety of mediums to keep all students interested.
